I really appreciate all your suggestions. I’m trying to be open to other options. But I keep coming back to this. There’s just something about the bug eye. To paraphrase James May: it gives me the fizz. There’s a guy down the street from me with a 2.5 bug eye 5 door with some tasteful mods, aside from the fart can. It’s a head turner every single time. Am I a lost cause?

Just go get one. I know that itch, it must be scratched.

why fight it? My WRX ruined me automotively. Nothing (i could afford at the moment) will ever compare. I wish I never sold it.

Bugeye WRX is best. Except maybe the Saabaru...

You mean the 9 3x?

I agree with you. I’ve wanted one since they came out and my NfS: Underground game would prove it.

Ask if it includes a vape pen.

You wouldn’t regret it....I had a 2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5TS wagon in Savannah Green Metallic. I had to sell it due to rust as it wasn’t financially feasible to repair it (it was at 170,000kms and the rear sub-frame was rusted out and cracked, and the body was starting to rust through in places again, after already having had it repaired once).
I hope to get a mint one someday...
‘Beastie’, as I called her. I still miss her dearly...

I almost tagged the story “I DON’T OWN A VAPE OR FLAT BRIM”

Savannah Green is such a lovely color.

A brief wikifari tells me that there was a STI 5 door made in ‘01 for the Japanese market. What are the chances of finding an unmodified example? Hmmm...

Right there with ya, buddy. Flat brims, fart cans, vape pens, Axe, hair “product”, gym-tan-laundry, are all real-life memes that I wish would go away.

Bugeye WRX is best WRX; especially a wagon.

Are you going to Rally?

I owned one...it was literally the worst car I’ve ever owned. Engine lost compression at around 100k miles, replaced that and the 5-speed went out. There were constantly issues with other components as well. However, this was a WRX that probably had a rough life.
If you are set on buying one, try to get a 2003 that has been really well maintained. Stay away from modifications...even an exhaust change without proper tuning can cause problems in these cars. I would be much less hesitant to buy an NA car.

My pipe dream is a bone stock 01-03 with complete service records.
BWAHHAHAHAHAHAHA. I crack me up.

Nah. Daily driver. I prefer to put my life at risk in the woods on two wheels.

RallyX I mean. If I can do it in a Milan I promise you it’s not life risking.

Haha...it’s hard enough finding one without a salvage title around here!

I say do it. My first proper manual driving lesson was in a bug-eye WRX. I was also looking at Hawkeye WRX wagons before the BRZ. I still kind of wish I had gotten the wagon at times. I’m sure you’ll have better luck finding a clean 2.5 as well since they haven’t been as clapped out by their owners as the WRX/STis for the most part.

I would imagine incredibly hard.

Oh, then yes. I’d love to get into autoX/rallyX

If you bought it used, I'd place the blame on the previous owner. My dad has owned his since new, bone stock, 150K miles, it runs like a champ and is very reliable.

Certainly blame the previous owner(s) on that car. However, I’m currently rebuilding a 2007 STi engine and there are a number of questionable design decisions. I think if you followed the factory service manual perfectly with regards to maintenance and service, it’d probably be fairly reliable...but not cheap.

If you’re going to rallyX the bugeye will be amazing in it. I’m personally not a fan of Subaru’s - but I absolutely respect their capabilities.
